Funding is a periodic charge for holding an open position. On Upscale the rate is fixed: it is set in advance for each asset category and is not recalculated from market conditions.
Funding applies on every market and in both directions — long and short alike. It is taken from margin and does not depend on whether the position is in profit or at a loss.
The amount is calculated from the position notional — the full size including leverage, not the collateral posted:
Charge = position notional × rate × number of cycles
where position notional = collateral × leverage, the rate is the value from the table for that asset category, and the number of cycles is how many charge times occurred while the position was open.
| Category | Rate | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto | 0.015% | every 8 hours |
| Forex | 0.009%, 0.027% on Wednesdays | once a day |
| Gold and silver | 0.048%, 0.144% on Wednesdays | once a day |
| US and European indices, copper | 0.025%, 0.075% on Fridays | once a day |
| 24/7 stocks, KR200, WTI crude oil and natural gas | 0.025% | once a day |
Funding models
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Rate | 0.015% |
| Frequency | every 8 hours |
| Schedule | 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC |
Funding is charged in proportion to position size and deducted directly from the margin account.
| Parameter | Forex | Gold and silver |
|---|---|---|
| Rate on regular days | 0.009% | 0.048% |
| Rate on Wednesdays | 0.027% | 0.144% |
| Frequency | once a day | once a day |
The triple rate on Wednesdays compensates for the weekend, when markets are closed.
The charge time varies by market — the exact moment for each pair is shown in the terminal. While these markets are paused, no funding is charged on open positions. Session and pause schedules for each category are on the Trading Assets page.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Rate Monday to Thursday | 0.025% |
| Rate on Friday | 0.075%, triple — covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday |
| Frequency | once a day |
| Charge time | 16:00 ET (America/New_York) |
| Weekends | no separate charges |
The model covers the indices US500, NAS100, US30, US2000, GER40 and EU50 and HG copper — markets that close for the weekend. The KR200 index trades around the clock and follows the round-the-clock markets model.
Funding is calculated from the current notional of the open position at the moment it is applied.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Rate | 0.025% of the full position size including leverage |
| Frequency | once a day, including Saturday and Sunday |
| Charge time | 24/7 stocks, KR200 and natural gas — 16:00 ET (America/New_York), WTI — 20:00 UTC |
There is no increased rate on any particular day: the standard 0.025% is charged on Saturday and Sunday too.
The model covers all 24/7 stocks, the KR200 index, WTI crude oil and NATGAS natural gas. The full list of instruments is on the Trading Assets page.
Impact on strategy
If a position is held for a few hours and closed before the charge time, funding does not affect it at all. Held across several cycles, the accumulated cost becomes a meaningful part of overall expenses.
Worked examples
In all examples $10,000 is the position notional — the full size including leverage. Collateral of $2,000 at x5 leverage, for instance, gives a $10,000 notional.
Crypto. A position with a $10,000 notional held for 3 days. Charged every 8 hours, that is 9 cycles.
$10,000 × 0.015% × 9 = $13.50
Forex. A position with a $10,000 notional held from Monday to Friday: four days at the regular rate and Wednesday at the triple rate.
$10,000 × (0.009% × 4 + 0.027%) = $6.30
Gold and silver. The same position at the 0.048% rate.
$10,000 × (0.048% × 4 + 0.144%) = $33.60
Tracking funding
For each open position the trading terminal shows the time until the next charge, the current rate and the estimated amount to be deducted.
